Job description

A sprain, a stiff neck, an injury… and the physiotherapist steps in. Physiotherapists often work after a sprain, scoliosis, or respiratory difficulties. First, they review the patient's medical file and perform a clinical examination to define the appropriate methods and means. They then use many techniques: massages, therapeutic exercises with equipment and weights, and may also use water, heat, or ultrasound.

Working conditions

Most physiotherapists work as self-employed practitioners in a private clinic. Their schedule adapts to patients’ availability, so hours can be shifted: late evenings, early mornings… Patients are very diverse, from newborns to high-level athletes to older adults.

Skills

Good physical health is required to handle patients, repeat exercises, and perform massages—while standing for a large part of the day. Listening skills and patience are essential to work effectively with people who may be severely disabled.

Professional profile

This profile strictly follows the Ministry of Health framework, aiming to train physiotherapists whose mission is to:

  • Establish a kinesiology assessment for patients.
  • Rehabilitate patients taking into account physical, psychological, and social needs.
  • Re-adapt people with physical disabilities and adopt a positive attitude toward them.
  • Contribute to the prevention of diseases and disabilities.
  • Participate in public information and education in health, disability prevention, and physiotherapy care.
  • Participate in analyzing national needs in physiotherapy and physical rehabilitation for people with disabilities.

Career prospects

A physiotherapist can:

  • Open their own physiotherapy practice.
  • Work in functional rehabilitation centers.
  • Work in thermal establishments and thalassotherapy centers.
  • Work in sports centers.
  • Operate or join a thalassotherapy center or a thermal cure facility.
  • Continue higher studies: Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate in physiotherapy sciences.
